Hours of Work:                 7am to 4pm (during summer 6:30am to 3:30pm), 38hour week with an RDO each fortnight

About the Opportunity

Cowra Shire Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Ganger – Roads Construction to support the delivery of Council’s Roads Works Program and associated construction projects. This hands‑on leadership role is responsible for leading a crew of construction staff while actively participating in day‑to‑day road construction and maintenance activities.

Reporting to the Supervisor – Roads Construction, the Ganger plays a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality, while meeting agreed timeframes and budget constraints. The role requires a strong on‑site presence, providing clear direction to staff, coordinating daily work activities and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety, quality assurance and environmental requirements.

Council is looking for a practical and reliable leader with solid experience in road construction, civil works, concreting and pipe work including water and sewer lines, who can lead by example and contribute positively to team culture. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating plant and equipment, supervising staff, completing required documentation and representing Council professionally when interacting with the community and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, candidates will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in road construction, civil works, concreting or a similar operational environment.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading a team in a hands‑on construction setting.
  • Relevant trade, technical or certificate level qualifications, or significant equivalent experience.
  • Experience operating road construction plant and equipment, including trucks and mobile plant.
  • A current HR driver licence
  • White Card
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly and meet work schedules.
  • Willingness to participate in after‑hours and on‑call requirements as needed.
